— Ybor City
Our Board of Directors voted unanimously last night to speak out strongly in favor of the Tampa Bay Rays plan to locate the new ballpark here in Ybor City. As the leading voice for business in Ybor City, we are hopeful and optimistic about the impact this project will have on all of us and the potential for positive economic reverberations all across Tampa Bay.
This is literally the biggest economic development project proposed in Ybor City since its establishment over a century ago, and we believe it will serve as a catalyst for business throughout Hillsborough County and beyond. Baseball is woven deeply into the fabric of Ybor City as an outlet for entertainment that fueled the competitive spirit of workers and business leaders here. The Rays organization has made it clear their intention to honor that legacy, and we believe they will do their part to maintain the authenticity of this unique Historic District, which is one of only two in the State of Florida. We are taking them at their word and welcome them as they become a part of our already rich cultural heritage.
Our members plan to be engaged at every point in the process, from fundraising and other development-related aspects of this undertaking to eventual design & construction of the new facility here in Ybor. Falling short of this goal would hamper our collective business development efforts for years to come, and the incalculable impact of that would extend far beyond the boundaries of our much-beloved district. Our chamber is over 300 member businesses strong – demonstrating our commitment to community & commerce on a daily basis and dedicating our abilities to the success of this endeavor.
